How to Build Bible Literacy

How well do you know the Bible? Most Christians may say “fairly well,” and we pastors will say “very well,” but secretly, we may be in fear that others will find out that we do not know His Word so well after all.

Nothing in our Christian life is as important or compares to the value of learning God's Word and then incorporating His precepts into our lives. Thus, memorizing a passage of Scripture is an essential way not only to know His Word, but to know and grow in our Lord and Savior.

What does the Bible itself say regarding the importance of Bible study? A lot; but, for this article, we will take a look at two passages, one in the Old Testament, and the other in the New.

Do you realize that if you are a Christian, and have read the entire Bible, you are in the minority? Does this scare you? Well, it should! If you study the Bible yourself, you are in an even greater minority that even most pastors do not fall into!

We can master the entire Bible and, even be totally transformed by the Word; but, if nothing comes from it, it is meaningless and nearly worthless.

Do you call yourself an expert on receivership? You probably say no way! But do you live your life that way. That is having a "me first" identity, always placing the emphases on the "I" and "Me."

Why should I care about the Bible?

How is the Bible different from any other book? Look at the evidence… If the Bible claims to be the Word of God it is a special book. Why we are to Study the Bible

Is the Bible important? Have you ever wondered what the Bible’s influence has been on you, personally, whether you read it daily or not at all? What about others around you? Have you considered the Bible’s relevance in world history?

It is when we are comfortable and complacent that our lack of willingness clouds us from growing in our Lord. The problem is our neglect, not the Bible!

You can do it!

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. Romans 10:17
